Etsy Shop of the Day- JEWELRY

C&J Jewelry

I thought this shop's items would be perfect for Veteran's Day.

Welcome to C and J Jewelry! The place to find handmade button jewelry and proud home of "I love my Solider, Marine, Sailor, or Airman" bracelets and necklaces.
This month we are featuring Winter bracelets!

A little bit about the buttons I use. All the Military buttons come off US Military uniforms. I use Army (BDU, ACU, and DCU), Air Force, Marine, and Navy buttons. The majority of the buttons are from Army uniforms. I get this question a lot: Yes, ACUs have buttons….check your fly! The ACU pants have buttons on the fly and back pockets. The ACU and BDU buttons are almost identical. The ACU buttons tend to have a little more of a shine to them and are slightly darker while the BDU buttons are more matte and slightly lighter, more olive green. The Air Force buttons I have are identical to ACU buttons. In the descriptions for each piece, I try to specify the branch or version of a uniform that the buttons belong to. However, some of the buttons came in groups sent to me from other military wives and I can’t be 100% sure where each button has come from. As always, I am more than happy to use button you provide in your necklace, bracelet, or key chain. Just contact me to make arrangements!

I am currently living in Louisiana, where my husband is stationed at Fort Polk. Being an Army wife has created a wonderful opportunity for me to see parts of the world I might never have had the opportunity to explore. Every new adventure is an opportunity for inspiration and of course an opportunity to get more beads!

Etsy Shop of the Day- FASHION

Modest Maven

I love to sew and it shows. No matter how often I sweep and vacuum, my floors are covered in thread and fabric scraps. I have enough fabric in my stash to stylishly clothe my family for a lifetime. Being a full-time mom, I usually sew standing up from my kitchen bar counter to keep little hands from getting into my sewing machine’s business.

Besides justifying my sewing addiction, the purpose of Modest Maven is to provide hip, comfortable, and low maintenance clothing to women on the go. Each item in my shop is measured, cut, sewn and embellished by me. I hope you see something you love!

Whitney Smith Pottery

I fell in love with throwing clay on the wheel when I took a class at Cabrillo College in Santa Cruz in 1994. I had a fantastic teacher, Dan Martinez, who skillfully taught me all the basics, and allowed me to take many independent study classes to hone my talent. I went on to the University of California to study for a degree in anthropology, but I continued to work in my garage studio while assisting another Santa Cruz artist, Sandi Dihl, at her clay studio. While I seriously considered going on to graduate studies for anthropology, I felt a deep passion for clay that I wanted to turn into a full-time living. After relocating to the Bay Area I worked as a floral designer in San Francisco and as an assistant for Bob Pool Pottery while continuing to develop my own ceramic business on the side. With the help and support of family, friends, and clients, I was able to make the leap to full-time ceramic artist in early 2000.

My design sense is primarily informed by my obsession with flowers and other organic forms found in nature. It is also very important to me that my ceramic pieces are functional for everyday use, while being absolutely beautiful, refined, and unique. I have been strongly influenced by Art Nouveau and the Arts and Crafts movement of the 19th and early 20th Century. I like the look and feel of old things and antiques, and my glaze choices have a certain look that reminds people of an different era.
